The Birth of Candles and Conversations
Candles and Conversations was created with one purpose: to bring young Jewish adults together in a meaningful way. Meeting someone who is thriving, relatable, and deeply connected to Jewish life can be challenging. Instead of waiting for solutions, we took matters into our own hands—building a space where like-minded individuals could connect organically, without the pressure or awkwardness of traditional dating.
The idea had been in the works for years, fueled by the growing concern that Jewish singles had limited opportunities to meet in real time (IRT). As Annette Cohen-Hoffman watched her own children navigate their mid-to-late twenties, the need for a dedicated Jewish singles space became undeniable. However, it was the tragic events of October 7, 2023 that truly ignited the urgency to bring this vision to life. In the wake of these events, the Jewish community yearned for unity, support, and a welcoming space to foster genuine connections.
In May 2024, the first Candles and Conversations event launched, focusing on singles in their 20s and 30s. The response was overwhelming. Not only did friendships form, but real love connections began to emerge. Encouraged by its success, the initiative expanded. Five events later, the impact was undeniable. As interest grew from an older demographic, Candles and Conversations introduced a gathering for singles 40 and older—proving that the desire for meaningful relationships knows no age limit.
What sets these events apart is their depth and intimacy. Instead of large, impersonal gatherings, each event is kept intentionally small—just 25 to 30 attendees—allowing for engaging, thought-provoking conversations centered around Jewish themes. This unique approach fosters more than just chemistry; it creates an environment where true connections can flourish.
Candles and Conversations has become more than just a social event series—it is a movement toward Jewish continuity, unity, and love. Whether seeking friendship, companionship, or something more, attendees leave with a renewed sense of community and purpose. The journey is just beginning, and the best way to experience it is to attend an event and witness the magic firsthand.
